Corrections to our publications

Human Rights Watch strives to maintain the highest level of accuracy in our reporting. This includes a commitment to correcting errors or clarifying facts that appear in our publications in a timely fashion. Corrections appear both on this dedicated webpage and at the bottom of the publication that contained the error.

We cannot reply individually to all corrections requests, but all such requests that specify the exact nature of the alleged inaccuracy and the publication (title, page number / web address and date) in which it appeared will be reviewed. If you believe you have found an inaccuracy in our materials, please contact us.

Errors contained in social media posts under Human Rights Watch and staff accounts will also be corrected in a prompt and transparent manner.

    4/29/2022: This press release has been updated to reflect the accurate number of strikes Human Rights Activists (HRA) has documented over the past 12 months. 

  • Escapees from Mariupol tell of 'hell on Earth'

    This article has been edited to correct the spelling of Halyna Morokhovskaya’s name.

  • UN: Support Impartial Justice for War Crimes in Ukraine

    Olta Xhacka is Albania's foreign minister. She was misidentified in an earlier version of this publication.

  • Germany Tries Crimes Against Humanity Committed in Gambia

    Please note there has been a correction to this release. The release previously suggested that the trial of Bai L. was set up by Yahya Jammeh. The trial is taking place in Germany under the principle of universal jurisdiction and is the result of joint efforts by victim groups, nongovernmental organizations, and German authorities. Furthermore, it was clarified that the charges against Bai L. include one attempted murder and two murders.

  • Ukraine: Russian Forces’ Trail of Death in Bucha

    We have corrected this text to reflect the accurate spellings of one person’s name and of two towns.

  • Yemen: Latest Round of Saudi-UAE-Led Attacks Targets Civilians

    4/19/2022: This version of the news release has been updated to more accurately reflect the parties who were allegedly aware that the former Houthi military camp had been converted to a prison.

  • Russia: Government Shuts Down Human Rights Watch Office

    This news release was redacted to correct the date of the UN General Assembly’s vote to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council.

  • Universal Periodic Review Submission on Bahrain

    Correction April 8, 2022: In an earlier version, we mistakenly reported that Mohamed Ramadan and Hussein Ali Moosa were executed in July 2020. This submission has been corrected to reflect that in July 2020 the Court of Cassation upheld the convictions and death sentences of Mohamed Ramadan and Hussein Ali Moosa.
